  3. You want to sink your teeth into the subject through supplemental materials like podcasts, documentaries, current events, etc.

  4. You want Math to feel relevant.

  5. You want to relate to the subject through your unique interests and background.

  6. You want to catch up in a course where you are falling behind.

  7. You want to hone executive functioning skills so that you can succeed academically on your own.

  8. You want to identify the obstacles on your path toward success and implement strategies to remove them.

SUCCESS

You get into your dream school, you can explain the nuances of the Civil War to your little cousin, you compulsively analyze the rhetoric of every social interaction, you have a crazy backlog of good podcast recommendations, math doesn’t feel terrifying, you like school a little bit more, and you feel the lightness of having your life together and being ahead. College Application Support

My daughter worked with Conor for her college application process, mainly with essay writing. He kept her on track with meetings and was very flexible if more sessions were needed and with scheduling overall. Both her and I felt very comfortable speaking to him right from the start which was an important factor; it's not easy to work with a stranger and a lot of personal information can come out during the essay writing process!!! She got into UCLA and Berkeley and was deciding between the two but she chose Berkeley! I highly recommend him!

Alia (my daughter) got a 5 on the AP exam, and Conor was very adamant that she follow a strict study regimen leading up to the exam. But Conor’s impact was much greater than that. She now listens to a podcast called “More Perfect” by Conor’s recommendation, which discusses Supreme Court cases left out of the history books. She references these cases constantly in casual conversation, and I learn something new from her weekly. Conor took the time to get to know Alia, and because of this was able to relate the material she was learning about to our family’s culture and history. She will tutor with him again for AP Gov next year, and he has my highest recommendation.

Tutoring with ENGAGE Tutoring for AP Lang is unlike any other class I have had tutoring for in the past. My tutor used topics that I am interested in when writing essays and doing practice lessons to make it engaging and fun. For example, we learned about rhetorical strategies through watching and reading Grammy speeches, and we even did a synthesis paper on rap. It really helped keep me focused and understand the material better. I would recommend ENGAGE Tutoring to anyone that wants to do well on AP Lang and have fun while doing so.

Executive Functioning and Writing

Liesl was struggling with organization and staying on top of things. Christina helped her with a massive overhaul of her notebooks and binders. At first, she came three times a week, helping her study for tests and making sure she was taking solid notes. Now, they meet once every three weeks because Christina has helped her take charge of her work. Also, she’s dramatically improved her writing since they started meeting.

EXecutive Functioning and Math

I have two sons, different ages and areas of need, working with two different tutors through Engage Tutoring. Both tutors have been extremely professional and successful! My older son worked with Linda, who really made a difference by helping him get organized and prioritize the many tasks during his senior year in college. She was the most caring, supportive and lovely person to work with for both my son and myself! My younger son is working with Argishti and getting help with math. My son was very resistant to any help at first, but Argishti was able to help him improve his grade and is continuing to make a difference by helping my son improve his skills and self confidence! Very grateful to Conor for providing exactly the right kind of help to address the needs of each of my boys. Really appreciate everyone at Engage Tutoring!

About Our Founder

Conor Murphy is a Los Angeles native, and all of his lower education took place in Culver City schools. He graduated cum laude from UC Santa Cruz with B.A.’s in Cognitive Science and Theater Arts. He is obsessed with history, reading, writing, film, theater, and psychology when they are at their best: telling a juicy story and inspiring discourse. Conor has been tutoring in these areas for three years with great success, but has also worked with students as a grief support counselor, music teacher, and acting coach. The priority is good grades, but Conor particularly enjoys hearing his students speak with excitement about topics that click. Apart from running the business, Conor acts in film and theater, writes, camps, plays basketball, and watches too much political Twitch.
